Knowing that people are who they say they are helps everyone feel safe on Gojo Spot. We use secure, AI-powered verification to confirm your real name, age and that your ID is valid.
What it verifies
- Your legal name: the name on your Gojo Spot account must match the name on your ID.
- Your age: you must be 18 or over. We take your date of birth from your ID; it stays private to you.
- That your ID is valid: a real, unexpired government ID that belongs to you.
Who needs to verify
- Hosts must verify their identity, and be 18 or over, before they can publish a listing.
- Guests may be asked to verify before booking.
What we ask for
A clear photo of a valid government ID:
- In Ethiopia: a Fayda card (National ID), a passport or a driver's license.
- From other countries: a passport, an identity card or a driver's license.
For ID cards, we ask for the front and the back; for a passport, the photo page. Your legal name on Gojo Spot must match the name on your ID.
What happens next
Most checks take less than a minute. Sometimes an authorized person on our team takes a look, which usually takes less than 24 hours. We'll let you know as soon as it's done. You can start here.
How your ID is protected
- Your ID is never shown to hosts or guests. They only see an "Identity verified" badge on your profile.
- Your date of birth stays private to you. Others never see your age.
- Your photos are kept in private, encrypted storage, and only a few authorized staff can open them.
- Your ID is processed securely by Gojo Spot and trusted service providers under strict confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
How long we keep it
We delete the ID photos 30 days after our decision, unless we need them longer to investigate fraud or to meet a legal obligation. We keep the result (verified or not), your verified name and date of birth while your account is open. Read the details in our Privacy Policy.
After you're verified
Your legal name and date of birth are locked, so nobody can change them without checking. If your name changes, see Changing your legal name.
