Verifying your identity
Last updated
Your ID is used to verify your legal name and your age (you must be 18 or over). We use secure, AI-powered verification to confirm your real name, age and that your ID is valid. It takes about 2 minutes. Hosts must verify before publishing a listing, and guests may be asked to before booking.
Before you start
- Have a valid government ID with you. In Ethiopia: a Fayda card, passport or driver's license. From another country: a passport, identity card or driver's license.
- Make sure your legal name on Gojo Spot is the name on your ID.
- Find good, even light and a dark, flat surface.
Step by step
- Go to Verify your identity, or choose Start next to Identity verification in Personal information.
- Choose the country that issued your ID, then the type of document.
- Allow the camera, and place the front of your ID inside the frame. When the photo looks good, it's taken automatically, or you can press the button.
- For ID cards, do the same for the back. For a passport, just the photo page.
- Check your photos, confirm the ID is yours, and submit.
On a computer without a camera, you can upload a photo instead.
Tips for a quick result
- Whole card inside the frame, nothing covering it
- No flash and no glare: tilt the card a little if there's a reflection
- The original ID, not a copy or a photo of a screen
After you submit
- Verified: most checks take less than a minute. Your legal name and age are verified, and your profile shows an "Identity verified" badge.
- In review: sometimes a person on our team takes a look. This usually takes less than 24 hours, and we'll let you know.
- Not verified: we tell you why and how to fix it, so you can try again.
If your legal name doesn't match your ID, you can update it to the name on your ID once, or ask us to review it.
Your privacy
Your ID is never shown to hosts or guests, and your date of birth stays private. We delete the photos 30 days after our decision. Read more in Identity Verification.
